Freedom and Adventure are coming together September 10-12th at The Summit Bechtel Reserve! Celebrate after a year that has been like none other and on a date that will forever be remembered. Camp, explore, and party down, all while adventuring on 10,000+ acres of one of the nation’s largest Scout reserves! The Adventure ON! Freedom Festival is one event you won’t want to miss.
With musical guests LONESTAR and available activities ranging from ziplining to mountain biking — you’re in for a festival of a lifetime! The best part? It’s perfect for all ages and free admission.
What’s the Summit? The Summit Bechtel Reserve was originally designed as a training and adventure center for Scouts in the BSA. For the first time in its 13 year history, the Summit will be open to the public and #Open4Adventure for a full weekend festival like no other.
So, come out in September and Adventure On!
The Mountaineer GNCC takes place at the world-renowned Summit Bechtel Reserve. Naturally, given the rugged West Virginia Mountains you should be prepared for a tough but fun event. The course will be made up of a mix of tight and technical trails plus some fast sections to give you a break before you head back into the technical stuff.
This event, which has been hosted by the WVDNR for decades, is dedicated to celebrating the heritage of hunting, fishing, and conservation in West Virginia. Staff from the WVDNR Wildlife Resources and Law Enforcement sections will be available throughout the weekend to answer any questions visitors may have. Additionally, the Outdoor Youth Challenge will be available to anyone 18 and younger. Kids can participate in a variety of outdoor activities throughout the weekend and be entered into a drawing for prizes! And don’t forget to stop by the Big Buck and Trophy Fish display to view some of the best trophy mounts in the state.
Get those adventure mobiles ready for an experience at The Summit Bechtel Reserve coming September 9-12, 2021! Mark your calendars and treat your family to an experience this fall! The Off-road and Overland Experience is now part of the Adventure Freedom Fest.

Yes! Food will be available for purchase from a variety of local vendors. Guests can also bring their own food to cook at in camp.
No! Though we believe scouting is one of the coolest things under the sun, The Freedom Festival was built to allow the general public into a scout sanctuary and enjoy all that this amazing property has to offer.
When it comes to accommodations, The Summit has it all. From glamping in high end canvas tents to more primative dispersed camping, the choice is yours at Freedom Festival. Have an RV? Bring it! We have over 80 designated dry camping RV spots that will be perfect for your rig.
Just like any other camping trip or outdoor activity, its best to be prepared for any element or situation that might arise. We recommend that guest bring a good pair of walking shoes, water bottle, and anything else you might need to be comfortable outside. Forget something? We got you covered. The Summit has two fully outfitted stores that have everything one might need including apparel, snacks, amenities, and more.
The Summit was built with the youth in mind. It’s one of the best facilities in the world to allow kids the freedom to roam and experience the great outdoors while keeping safety top priority. This allows adults to enjoy their time while confidently being able to send the kids off to explore all that the The Summit has to offer. The WVDNR will even have a special Youth Challenge just for kids!
Stay connected at The Summit! Our 10,000+ acre facility has high speed WiFi throughout the entire property and is free to use for all guests.
We believe all good days start and end with proper hydration. That’s why every 100 yards at The Summit you’ll find one of our Camelback hydration stations where you can fill up on refreshing cold water.
Though The Summit spans over 10,000 acres, we’ve condensed the main festival area to make it easier for attendee’s to get around. Don’t feel like walking? No worries! We will have shuttle buses running around the clock that will allow guest to explore The Summit without exerting to much energy.
No camping or festival experience would be the same without mans best friend! While we do allow pets, we ask that they remain leashed in crowded areas and that all owners clean up after them.
Personal ATVs will not be permitted at the Adventure On! Freedom Festival.
The safety of our guests, staff, and community is our number one priority. As we look toward the Adventure On! Freedom Festival, we are working with the Fayette County Health Department, as well as following guidance developed by the CDC and any executive orders from the office of Governor Jim Justice.
